Humboldt Roller Derby Needs You!

Do you love derby?  Are you firm but friendly?  HRD is looking for a dedicated crew of “super-volunteers” to serve as USHERS for the upcoming season!  Ushers play an integral role in the derby experience by managing crowd control, keeping aisles clear, and helping visitors find seating.

Ushers will be asked to volunteer for a minimum of three bouts between March and September, and to attend a training session in February.  If you or anyone you know is interested in helping us deliver some smack-down this season, please contact Susan at sseaman4730@gmail.com, or 442-2013.  Thanks!

Congrats to Our First Skater of the Month!

January 2011 marks the beginning of our “Skater of the Month” feature, which allows us to spotlight one very special skater at a time, giving you a little peek into their lives.

Our very first Skater of the Month is Dropkick Angy! Angy was nominated because she’s been on the track, working hard for months, but recently she has shown incredible improvement in her attendance, tenacity, and fearlessness – and it is absolutely paying off!  Her agility and endurance are showing, and we know she’ll be making her way onto a team roster soon.

Off the track, Angy is a busy mother to four kids aged 5 to 18, has an awesome boyfriend, and works for the County performing weddings – but says she NEVER plans to do the deed herself!  She enjoys taking photos and is addicted to old-school punk rock.

If you see Angy around town, be sure to give her some encouragement because we’ll be congratulating her with hip checks.
